Lazio fell 1 – 4 to the German side and after opening their campaign with a win, they will be hoping for three points on the road as they look to better their performance in this competition last season. Marseille have not had much joy in this competition since sealing their spot in the final last term. They lost to Atletico Madrid and fell to Eintracht Frankfurt at home in their opening game in a group they were billed firm favorites and they will see this as the chance to give their home fans something memorable. They travel to Italy for their next game in the group and so they can’t afford slip ups here, at least not in the home leg. Two wins and two straight clean sheets will probably have prepared them well for this game and they have been improving since the shock 3 – 0 defeat by Lille. They have lost once in the last five matches, scored in all but one of the five and kept two clean sheets so with good focus, they should be winning this. That is however not a guarantee with Lazio; the Italians are coming from two straight wins as well, and they have picked clean sheets in both and have shown much improvement after the losses to Roma and Eintracht Frankfurt, in which they conceded seven goals. Lazio have scored in each of their last nine matches heading to this game and meet a Marseille side that has scored in all but one of the 12 matches they have played this season across all competitions. Marseille have three clean sheets in six matches at home this season and have picked four wins in the process. They have scored at least two goals in five of the six home matches this season and in the Europa League they have seven wins in the last 10 at home but the two back to back losses ahead of this game could get to their minds. Marseille have also failed to win any of their last four Europa League matches. As for Lazio, three wins and three losses in the opening six away games this season doesn’t place them as the strongest candidates for a win here and it has been even tougher for them in the Europa League, with the Italians picking four losses and just a win in the last five away matches in the competition. In fact, they have managed just three away wins in the competition, with just one clean sheet in the process.
