The quarter-finals of the Coupe de France will conclude on Wednesday when Ligue 2 side Annecy travels to Stade Velodrome to lock horns with Olympique Marseille with a place in the final four up for grabs. The hosts’ league title chances took a knock this week after they lost Le Classique over the weekend 3-0 courtesy of another Mbappe/ Messi masterclass. Marseille remained in second position in Ligue 1 since neither Monaco nor Lens were able to win their matches; however, the gap to PSG has now been extended to eight points. Over the last six matches, Marseille has won four and lost twice, which included a win over PSG in the last round of this tournament. Prior to that, Marseille had knocked out Rennes in the round of 32, which has seen them emerge as the new tournament favourites.
Annecy FC has done incredibly well to reach this stage of the tournament; however, this will be their first encounter against Ligue 1 opposition so far. The visitors beat Paris FC on penalties in the last round, which followed a 6-1 thumping of Villerupt Thil in the Round of 64 after the lower-league side was reduced to 10 men in the first half. Annecy comes into this match following a 5-1 defeat to Sochaux, with has seen them slip to tenth in Ligue 2, with a record of eight wins, eight draws, and nine losses in 25 league matches this term. It’s going to be difficult for the visitors in this one, and if they concede early, there will probably be no way back for them.
