Back in September, Marine hosted Barnoldswick Town in the preliminary round of the FA Cup. They were 1-0 down in that tie with three minutes remaining. It’s unlikely they were imagining a third round home game against Tottenham. Marine got past Barnoldswick and have had to win five more ties to reach the third round for only the second time in their history. The first round saw them beat League Two Colchester United on penalties and they then defeated Havant and Waterlooville in the second round, after extra time. Marine play in the North West Division of the Northern Premier League. They are sixth in the table and seven points behind the leaders with two games in hand. A busy schedule lies ahead of them as their cup exploits mean only seven league matches have been played with another 29 to go! They will be massive underdogs for this game but only have one loss in their last 14 league and cup games.

They won’t be up against a full-strength Tottenham side of course. The Premier League side face Aston Villa just three days after this cup tie. They’ll field a virtual reserve side but even that will be far too strong for the non-leaguers. Tottenham have already qualified for the EFL Cup final and history may be on their side for an FA Cup triumph too. They won this cup in 1901, 1921, 1961, 1981 and 1991, so why not in 2021 win the trophy for the first time in 30 years. Back them to score over 3.5 goals in this match.
