Manchester United hosts Arsenal on the back of really unconvincing results, even against much weaker opposition and a lot of money here will be placed on Arsenal, though we can’t rule out a massive recovery from United. In midweel, United struggled to see off Rochdale in the League Cup, with the League One side, placed low on the standings, close to a shock upset before going down on post match penalties. When they have scored, United have failed to make it more than one goal a game this season, save for the opening day 4 – 0 rout of Chelsea. In their last league match, they fell 0 – 2 to Wets Ham United and in their last five Premier League matches, they have managed just one win, and one clean sheet. United will benefit greatly from the return of Paul Pogba in this game while we expect that Juan Mata, a second half sub in the Rochdale game, and Anthony Martial will be key. Arsenal on the other hand, have scored in each of their eight matches this season, across all competitions. They twice came from behind to pick a 3 – 2 win over Aston Villa in their last game, despite being a man down after Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off. They showed a good fighting spirit but they still have defensive issues to sort out.

In the last five matches, Arsenal have scored two or more goals and in the last three alone, they have scored 11 goals. The return of defenders Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney, who played in the 5 – 0 midweek win over Nottingham Forest should be a welcome boost for Arsenal, who have had a porous defence so far. However, Alex Lacazette is still out injured but with Martinelli scoring a brace in midweek, and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang available, and Nicolas Pepe scoring against Aston Villa, we don’t expect Lacazette to be missed so much. In eight Premier League matches, Arsenal have one loss, but away from home they have just four wins in 15. They will be hoping to put pressure on United, who have four wins in the last 15 Premier League matches, but nine in 15 league games at home. In their last six meetings, Manchester United have picked three wins and Arsenal two. Arsenal have not won at Old Trafford in their last five visits; the last time they won there was in 2015. Of Arsenal’s current squad, only Mesut Ozil, Bellerin, Callum Chambers and Damian Martinez were in the squad on the day Arsenal last won at Old Trafford.
