A blockbuster early kickoff match is set for the second week of the Premier League. Leaders Manchester City will be at home to welcome Tottenham Hotspur as both sides look to build on solid starts to the season. As City prepare to host the match at the Etihad Stadium, here we preview the game before offering a prediction.
In their own ways, these two sides had disappointing campaigns last season. Manchester City, off a run of four straight league titles, were made to finish trophyless and had to really battle for their Champions League slot. In a torrid season, they lost this corresponding fixture 4-0.
Tottenham, on their part, had to focus their energies on winning the Europa League after a poor domestic campaign. They could only manage a 17th-place finish, just above the relegation zone. With such a season, it is understandable why both teams are placing importance on fast starts.

Manchester City - Tottenham: Form Analysis
Manchester City were the biggest winners on the opening weekend. With a thumping 4-0 win against a hapless Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Cityzens sent a strong statement.
The home fans needed that as City endured a disappointing all-round campaign last season. Their preseason period was spent at the Club World Cup, where they were also not up to speed.
But with a busy transfer window and new faces across, City represent an aura of freshness. They will look to beat Spurs, who have become somewhat their bogey team.
At least four goals were scored in the last four matches between these teams at the Etihad.
Among the changes at Tottenham after their poor run last season was the sacking of Ange Postecoglou. Thomas Frank has taken over, and the team has adapted well, beating new boys Burnley 3-0 in the league opener.
Earlier in the UEFA Super Cup, Spurs had put in a decent effort against PSG. There’s a general feeling the players have bought into the new coach’s methods.
The one thing Frank will hope to carry on from Postecoglou is Spurs’ latest away performance against City. In their last visit here, the North Londoners won 4-0. That was their second win in four visits to City.

Manchester City have benefitted from an injection of new energy in the team and that was clear on matchday one. With Rodri still in the treatment room, Tijani Reijnders announced his arrival with a goal and an assist on his Premier League debut.
That will allow him to settle in well and fast. City will also benefit from Rayan Cherki’s contribution, as the Frenchman showed with a goal on his league debut. With Erling Haaland up and running, Guardiola seems to have secured the attacking department.
However, with Ederson, Matteo Kovacic, Kalvin Phillips, Rodri and Josko Gvardiol all missing last week, City might be short defensively.
Eberechi Eze's deal with Spurs has fallen through, and Thomas Frank has to work with available options.
Manchester City will be happy to learn that James Maddison is out of this match. The England international was a thorn to City when Spurs visited last season, scoring twice. He misses this with a knee injury.
The injury list at Spurs is longer. Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin, and Bryan Gil are all nursing knee injuries, though not as serious as Maddison’s.
Thomas Frank will also be sweating over the fitness of Yves Bissouma and Destiny Udogie, as he needs more defensive players here. Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, and Micky van de Ven are available for that.
Meanwhile, Spurs have been forced to deal with the embarrassment of missing out on Eberechi Eze, reported to have chosen Arsenal. However, in Richarlison’s form, they’ll be good.
