Manchester City had a perfect warm up for their return leg against Sporting Lisbon in the round of 16 of the Champions League with a comfortable win over Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday. City, the champions of England, will be at home against the champions of Portugal’s who trail 5-0 from the first leg. Manchester City are coming from a 4-1 win over Manchester United in the Premier League. Riyad Mahrez, who is currently enjoying a good run, scored twice in the game, his fourth and fifth goals in the team’s last five matches. At home in the Champions League, Mahrez has scored four in the last five matches and he will be a focal point in this game. City have a very good scoring run going into this game; they’ve scored two or more goals in seven of their last eight matches. In their last 17 matches, Manchester City have lost just once.

Sporting are coming from a tough run in the last few matches, a highlight of them being their 5-0 loss at home to City. It will be a big task trying to overturn that scoreline, and their recent performances also don’t inspire a lot of confidence. Sporting have two wins in their last six matches and away from home, they have seven losses in the last 10 away matches in the UEFA Champions League. This will be the fourth time these two sides face off competitively; City have managed two straight wins over Sporting, with the Portuguese side winning once in their earlier three meetings. In their last five matches, Sporting have met two formidable opponents, and lost on both occasions - against City and FC Porto. They are however coming from a 2-0 win over Arouca in the Portuguese league, their second win, after earlier being Estoril 3-0.
