Manchester City vs Manchester United Prediction & Betting Tips - FA Cup

by Steve Ashfield | in FA Cup Predictions

For the first time ever we have an all-Manchester FA Cup final. Premier League champions Manchester City take on local rivals Manchester United at Wembley on Saturday June 3rd.  It's a 3pm UK time kick-off just like in the good old days. City will be attempting to win the double just a week before they face Inter Milan in the Champions League final. United have their own double in mind though as they bid to add the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup won earlier in the season. Manchester City haven't won the FA Cup since 2019 and you have to go back to 2011 for their win before that. Manchester United also haven't had massive success in the FA Cup in the past 20 years. They won the cup in 2004 but their last victory was seven years ago. Both clubs will be wanting to win this final but their fans perhaps even more sol. It's going to be a rough time in Manchester for the fans of the losing team.

Manchester City - Manchester United: Form Analysis

Manchester City haven't won in either of their last two games. Don't for a second believe they aren't in good form though. There's been plenty of squad rotation by Pep Guardiola since the Prenier League title was confirmed. The 1-0 loss at Brentford last Sunday ended a run of 25 games in all competitions. 18 of their last 22 matches have been won with goals aplenty being scored and not just by Haaland. The reasons for their success aren't all about scoring lots of goals. Their defence has played a big part in the Citizens reaching this Wembley FA Cup final. Five games have been played and not one goal has been conceded by City with 17 goals being scored by City. Wins have come against Chelsea, Arsenal, Bristol City Burnley and Sheffield United. 23 of the Blues last 26 FA Cup ties have been won but after a string of semi-finals, they've finally made it to Wembley.. The last match between these two clubs was played in January of this year. United won that but had been beaten in the previous three meetings with City scoring 12 goals.

Manchester United finished third in the Premier League but 14 points behind City. They ended the league season with four consecutive wins but none were against sides who qualified for Europe next season. Their last loss was a 1-0 away defeat at West Ham United in early May. Their form at Old Trafford has been highly impressive this season but away form is nowhere near as good. Over 90 minutes in all competitions, Manchester United have one win in the last six and five losses in the last ten. To get to this FA Cup final, the Red Devils had four 3-1 home wins over Everton, Reading, West Ham United and Fulham. They finally played a game away from Old Trafford when getting a penalty shootout win over Brighton at Wembley. That game ended goalless after 120 minutes, their first clean sheet of the competition.

Manchester City & Manchester United Squad Analysis

It's been a long hard season and both clubs have injury problems going into this FA Cup final. Manchester City don't have any serious doubts, more "niggles" as described by Pep Guardiola. The list contains some key players though including Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Ruben Dias. There is good news though with Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake both fit again as City try to win the FA Cup without conceding a single goal.

The injury list at Manchester United is a lot more worrying for them. They have Anthony Martial ruled out already and Antony is likely to miss out due to his ankle injury. Marcus Rashford is fit though and will be playing on Saturday. Jadon Sancho is also expected to start the game. Luke Shaw didn't play against Fulham last Sunday but is expected to be fit for this FA Cup final.

Our Manchester City vs Manchester United Prediction

It's leg two of the treble that Manchester City are chasing this season. They have already won the Premier League and will be fully expecting to win the FA Cup final this weekend. They have been rotating their squad since they secured a third straight Premier League title. Now it'll be back to business with silverware to be won. They have reached this final without conceding a goal and that includes taking on both Chelsea and Arsenal. Manchester United have already won the Carabao Cup this season and would love to complete their own double. Form has been good but the opposition not the best in the Premier League. Injuries aren't helping them and our Manchester City v Manchester United prediction is a win for Manchester City.
