Mamelodi Sundowns are set for a historic fourth straight PSL title when they host SuperSport United on Wednesday in a potential title deciding game. The defending champions go to this game leading the standings with 57 points while SuperSport have 41 points in sixth. With three matches to go, Sundowns can hit an unassailable 60 points with a win, as their closest opponents, AmaZulu can only get to 59 points. Ahead of the clash in Pretoria, Sundowns have had tough weeks, congested with matches and culminating in their elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Al Ahly. They are seeking to be the first side in the PSL era to win four back to back titles and also hoping to win the first post Pitso Mosimane era. Sundowns have a game in hand and are coming from three straight wins, and four straight clean sheets. They’ve lost only once this season, against Kaizer Chiefs. In the last 10 home matches they have seven clean sheets but their only loss of the season came at their backyard.

SuperSport were at one point considered title contenders but have failed to challenge Sundowns and go to this game realistically challenging for a Confederations Cup place. They are five points below third placed Golden Arrows, who occupy the Confederations Cup place. SuperSport’s biggest handicap this season has been in attack; they’ve failed to score more than a goal in their last 11 matches. In four of their last nine league matches they’ve failed to score completely. The visitors have managed just one clean sheet in their last seven matches and have three wins only in their last 15 league matches. Away from home in the last seven league matches, SuperSport have no win nor clean sheet.
