Malta will play host to Ukraine in gameweek eight of the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers on Tuesday evening. The hosts are at the bottom of Group C after six games, while the visitors are in third place. It’s been a difficult qualification campaign for Malta. They are yet to record a single point in the competition and cannot qualify from this position even if they win their remaining fixtures. The hosts lost their weekend meeting with Italy 4-0. That result extended their losing run in competitive matches to seven. The last time they won a competitive match was against San Marino back in June last year at the Nations League. In this competition, Malta have failed to score a single goal in any of their last five games. They have conceded 15 in that time. The hosts are big outsiders in this one. 

Meanwhile, Ukraine are right in the thick of the race for the top two spots. They won their last match 2-0 over North Macedonia on Saturday evening. With that, they are now on ten points, including three wins, one draw, and two losses. Ukraine are level on points with second-placed Italy though the Azzurri have a better goal difference of five and a game in hand. England lead the group with 13 points in five games. The visitors' final game of the competition is against Italy next month. That means in order to qualify; they must win their next two matches and hope the Italians lose at least one of their remaining matches by a fairly big margin.
