Frech is in rich form, coming here on a six-match winning streak. The Pole arrived for her second appearance in Beijing after claiming the title in Guadalajara. That was her first career tour title victory on her second tour final appearance this season.

Diana Shnaider defeated Frech last month in Toronto in their first career meeting. She did it in straight sets in the second round on her way to the semi-finals at that event.

With their second matchup being at another WTA 1000 tournament, the Russian will be confident of victory. Shnaider has seen disruptions in her form recently but in general, has had a superb year.

She has 49 wins thus far and secured three tour titles across three different surfaces. The 20-year-old won her first career tour title in Hua Hin on a hard court. She followed that up with a grass title in Bad Homburg and a clay victory in Budapest.

To begin her Beijing debut, Shnaider saw off Sofia Kenin in straight sets. She has now moved up to 15th in the live ranking which is a new career high.
