Lyon needed a late Mousa Dembele goal to beat Bordeaux last week, but it was another nervy performance from les Gones. Lyon have been extremely topsy-turvy since the news of manager Bruno Genesio’s contract not being extended past the summer. The news was met by three consecutive losses to Rennes, Dijon and Nantes, all teams in the bottom half, and two tight wins over extremely beatable opponents in Bordeaux and Angers. It hasn’t been convincing from Lyon but they have managed to keep up their attacking finesse with 13 goals in their last seven games. Those same seven games have also seen them concede 13 times, and this inconsistency across the pitch has been what’s cost them. Both teams have scored in ten of their last eleven games which isn’t exactly the record of a team chasing 2nd. Lyon are without a clean sheet at home in the league since December and they could continue to struggle as they face one of the best attacks in the league.

Lille had slightly tailed off from the form that brought them six consecutive wins in January with a draw to Reims and a loss to Monaco putting doubts over their ability to finish 2nd. Their recent results have reinstalled the confidence though as they smashed PSG 5-1 and thrashed Nîmes 5-0 in their last three games. These results were split by a rather disappointing draw with Toulouse but nevertheless they now sit six points clear of Lyon and a win here would near enough guarantee them finishing 2nd, a massive feat for a club that almost got relegated last season. Their incredible attack has been on show recently with the team scoring 14 goals in their last five games and back-to-back clean sheets have been an added bonus for a team not known for their defensive prowess. We’re sure that Lille would have preferred to host this massive game but les Dogues have the 2nd best away record in the league so the destination shouldn’t affect their result here.
