Champions League chasing Lyon will welcome Lens this weekend to conclude the 2025/26 French Ligue 1 campaign. Lyon, seven points behind second-placed Lens, come into the weekend placed fourth. Their opponents have managed just three points in five away matches, and as they are preparing for the cup final, the prediction here will not favor them.
Lyon must win this match if they are to stand a chance of qualifying directly for the Champions League league phase next season. Les Gones trail Lille, who occupy the final automatic UCL slot, by a point.
They have accumulated 60 points but also need to look over their shoulder, with fifth-place Rennes only a point behind. Paulo Fonseca’s men saw a four-match winning streak snapped last weekend at Toulouse.
Lens were defeated in midweek, and this brought an end to their slim hopes of the title. Les Sang et Or had an outside chance at the title going into the top-of-the-table clash with champions PSG.
They, however, were unable to make home advantage count, as they were defeated 2-0. The loss snapped a six-match unbeaten run and saw them fall nine points off the pace.
Lens will, however, finish the season in second place no matter the outcome against Lyon, as they are six points ahead of third place.
Pierre Sage’s men, who have a Coupe de France final coming up next weekend, could rotate the team for this match.
