Luton Town and Burnley, two sides relegated from the Premier League, will clash in their first match in the Championship. Their battle for an immediate return to the topflight starts at Luton’s Kenilworth Road home. Follow on for our preview of the match and a prediction.

The two teams didn’t have much to separate them save for being separated by two points at the end of their Premier League campaigns. Luton completed their season without a win in the final six matches, losing five of them and will be eyeing a better start.

Their preseason results weren’t encouraging either, winning just one of their five friendly matches. One positive about the Hatters though, is that they rarely failed to score, even at their lowest. In the last 22 competitive matches, Luton Town failed to score only once. That was against the league’s best defence – Arsenal.

The last time Burnley played in the Championship, they were the strongest and sealed promotion as champions. They did well against Luton back then and even last season in the Premier League.

Coming into this game, the visitors are unbeaten in eight matches against Luton Town and will want to keep the run going. They won four of those eight matches and failed to score in just one. Five of those eight matches, however, saw both teams score.

Their return to the Championship marks a new era after manager Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich. Scott Parker picks up the team that won just three of the last 21 competitive matches. The team also failed to keep a clean sheet in 21 matches. However, Burnley also failed to score in just one of their last 11 matches.
