Lorenzo Sonego and Ugo Humbert, both unseeded, will meet in the second round of the French Open on Wednesday. The winner here will advance to the third round to play either seventh-seed Andrey Rublev or unseeded Corentin Moutet. Lorenzo Sonego defeated 30th seed Ben Shelton 3-1 to advance to this round. It was his fifth win in nine matches on clay this season, equaling his overall record at 13 wins and 13 losses. Despite the win, he has dropped three places to 52nd in the live ranking. Sonego and Humbert have played each other twice before and have one win each. The Italian won the latest encounter earlier this year in Monte-Carlo. And having never lost a second-round match before at Roland Garros, Sonego will be confident of a win here.

Ugo Humbert is coming to this match in the best form he has been in all season. The Frenchman is currently on a six-match winning streak and won his opening round fixture in straight sets. The win over compatriot Adrian Mannarino was also his first at the French Open. Humbert had lost all five previous fixtures he had played in Paris. The win nudged him up six places to 34th in the live ranking which is the highest he has placed this season. Humbert has alternated between the tour and challenger circuits but it is the latter where he has had the most success so far. He has played three challenger finals and has two titles on clay.
