Liverpool will play host to Nottingham Forest at Anfield this Saturday as they look to stabilize their shaky title defence. The Reds went into the international break on a low following a heavy beating by former champions Manchester City. Both sides will be desperate for three points in this match, and below is our preview and a prediction.
A fine start to the season didn’t particularly last past the opening five league games for the Reds. Here they find themselves eighth in the standings, eight points behind league leaders Arsenal. Nottingham Forest were also high performers last season, but this time a lot hasn’t worked in their favor.
The London side is already being handled by a third manager this season. The last two matches have somewhat worked well for them, but they remain etched in the relegation region. With both sides trying to get their domestic campaigns on track, this should be an exciting game.

Liverpool - Nottingham Forest: Form Analysis
Liverpool left for the international break having been reduced to shambles by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. On a day that much didn’t go in the Reds’ favor, they conceded an early penalty before what looked like the equalizer was ruled out.
In the end they were thrashed 3-0 by the Cityzens. That result left Arne Slot’s men on a streak of five losses in six league games.
To emphasize just how Liverpool have dropped, in the preceding 49 Premier League matches, they had suffered just five defeats. At home, though, the hosts have found comfort, winning four of their five league games so far.
They’ve only lost to Manchester United at Anfield.
Liverpool have collected 12 out of a possible 15 points at home in the league.
Nottingham Forest went into the international break in contrasting form, having bagged four points from their latest two matches.
After a late heartbreak saw them draw 2-2 with Manchester United, the Tricky Trees locked the points in a 2-0 win against Leeds United. The challenge gets tougher this time with a visit to Anfield.
It won’t give them a lot of jitters, as in their last trip here, Nottingham claimed a 1-0 win. They are unbeaten in the last two matches against Liverpool but way short of their form last season.
The visitors are yet to win an away game this season, only managing two points from a possible 15.

Liverpool & Nottingham Forest Squad Analysis
Injuries to key players haven't spared Liverpool. The one they miss most is goalkeeper Alisson, who is nursing a hamstring injury.
In his absence clean sheets have been a rarity, though Giorgi Mamardashvili has done well. The Georgia international saved Erling Haaland’s penalty last time out but couldn’t do much about the three goals that followed.
Alisson has returned to training, but it remains to be seen if he will be fit enough for this encounter. Even at their lowest, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah continues to stand out.
The Egyptian has 276 goal contributions for the Reds and is expected to make a 300th league appearance for the hosts.
At least six players across these two sides are nursing hamstring injuries.
As Liverpool works on reintroducing Alisson between the sticks, Nottingham Forest are sweating over their key attackers’ fitness.
Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the winner in the corresponding fixture last season, but he is a doubt for this game with a leg injury. The hosts are also facing a race against time to have Chris Wood fit from a knee injury.
Nottingham will also be short defensively as Ola Aina continues with his lengthy recovery from a hamstring injury. Douglas Luiz is also out with a similar concern, while the match comes too soon for Oleksandr Zinchenko (groin).

Our Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest Prediction
Nottingham Forest haven't had a great season so far, and their struggles on the road have been clearer. Here they face one of the title chasers, and even in Liverpool’s state, Forest will still come here as underdogs. The visitors have failed to win any of their five away league matches this season.
They face a Liverpool side that is among the top performers at home in the league. Liverpool have gone winless in three meetings against Forest just once, in 1993, and we aren’t banking much on a repeat. Our prediction for Liverpool v Nottingham Forest is that Liverpool wins and BTTS.
Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest - Other Interesting Predictions
Mohamed Salah to score or assist
Mohamed Salah hasn’t had the best start to the season, but he still remains a likely candidate to score or assist. He has four goals and two assists this season in the league and is on the brink of setting a fresh record in attack with Liverpool.
The Egyptian has 276 goal contributions and will naturally want to add to the tally here. That’s why we predict Mohamed Salah to score or assist as our second prediction.
