Linfield are just one round away from reaching the Europa League group stages. Just making it to the play-off round is their best performance in this competition. Their previous best had been reaching the second qualifying round. This season has seen begin in the Champions League but they lost in the first qualifying round to Rosenborg 6-0 on aggregate. Transferred into the Europa League, Linfield have got the better of HB Torshavn and Sujetska winning three of their four matches. Home form in European competition has seen them win three and lose four of their last seven games. They have just started their domestic campaign in Northern Ireland and have three points from their first two games, losing 4-2 at home to Coleraine at the weekend.

Qarabag also began this season in the Champions League, a competition in which they have previously reached the group stages. The champions of Azerbaijan beat Partizan Tirani and Dundalk to reach the third qualifying round. They won 2-1 away at APOEL Nicosia in the first leg but then lost the home second leg 2-0 to be knocked out and moved into the Europa League. Qarabag are bidding to make the group stages in European competition for the sixth season in a row. Last season saw them finish fourth behind Arsenal, Sporting Lisbon and Vorskla Poltava. Only one of their seven away games in qualifying rounds have been lost with a win and two draws this season. They look too strong for Linfield and can get the away win here.
