Lille finished second in Ligue 1 last season and qualified for the Champions League. Despite being runners-up, they were never in with a chance of winning the title with PSG finishing 16 points ahead of them. The gap was often larger than that final figure. Can Lille close that gap this season?  They have lost their top scorer from last term with Pepe having moved to English Premier League club Arsenal and Rafael Leao going to AC Milan. Lille have been busy in the transfer market with Timothy Weah, Yusuf Yazici and Victor Osimhen among their new signings. Home form last season saw Lille win 13 out of 19 league games with only a couple of defeats. Only one of their last nine league games have been lost. They'd love to carry on the home form they had at the end of last season. The last four were all won with five goals scored in three of them.

Nantes finished 12th in Ligue 1 last season, 18 points behind the top four but 14 above the relegation zone. If they want to break out of mid-table then they have to improve their away form. Just four league wins last season and ten defeats. They haven't had much success in their travels to Lille in recent times with three straight defeats. Pre-season hasn't gone too bad for them with four wins, a draw and an away loss to Brest who play in a lower league in France. Only two of their last 13 away league games have been won and the tip here is for a Lille home win.
