FA Cup holders and Community Shield winners Leicester City start their Premier League campaign with a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, looking to keep up their fine run in recent times. Last season, and the season before, Leicester missed a top four finish on the final day of the campaign and this time they’ll want things done early enough. They are coming from a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield and while this will boost their confidence, it will also be great for improving their fitness levels. Harvey Barnes is back and together with James Maddison they showed good glimpses in the match but the Foxes will miss Wesley Fofana, a long-term absentee. Going into this game, they are unbeaten in the last three matches and had a much better performance defensively in their final preseason game, keeping a clean sheet against Manchester City. They’ve also scored in each of their last three matches, improving from their earlier two.

Wolves start life with new manager Bruno Lage, and the expectation for the Portuguese manager is an improvement on the 13th placed finish last season. In the 2020/21 campaign, Wolves were short in attack, scoring only 36 in 38 league games and this is one of the areas the new man will want addressed. They have averaged a goal a game in their six preseason matches, though the six goals they’ve scored came in four matches. Wolves looked short in attack as they wrapped up preseason with a 1-0 loss to Celta Vigo, a result that leaves them with just two wins in their last nine matches, and having suffered six losses. The availability of Mexican Raul Jimenez should build up confidence in attack. The striker returns after a head injury that kept him out of action for the better part of last season. It will be interesting to see how Jimenez teams up with new signing Francisco Trincao in attack. However, the exits of goalkeeper Rui Patricio and Jose Sa will weaken them defensively and they get to this game without a clean sheet in four matches.
