Leicester City go into their final league game of the season needing to win to confirm a place in the Champions League next season. They are fifth and a point behind their opponents in this game, Manchester United. City could draw this match and still finish in the top four but only if Chelsea lose at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. They had looked good for a return to the Champions League going into 2020. They were third behind Liverpool and Manchester City but their form has slipped in recent months. A form guide for the past 10 league games has them down in 14th with only 12 points earned. Away form has been the main reason for their slump in form. They have lost their last two on the road conceding seven goals with just two points from the five away games played since the Premier League resumed. Home form has been better though with the three home post-lockdown fixtures producing seven points. They have won 11 home league games and only the top two have conceded less goals at home. No goals have been conceded in their last four at home, keeping Manchester United out is going to be a lot more difficult than Aston Villa, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.

Manchester United would love to get back into the Champions League via their league placing. It’d take pressure off them for the upcoming Europa League campaign. Wednesday saw them have to come from behind to get a 1-1 home draw with West Ham, their second successive home draw. The point took them up to third in the table, ahead of Chelsea on goal difference. They only need to avoid defeat in this game to return to the Champions League. A win sees them finish third, a draw would take them down to fourth if Chelsea beat Wolves. United haven’t always been at their best on the road this season. Only seven away league games have been won with five draws and six defeats. However, five of those victories have come in their past nine away fixtures with no losses in the last six. The last three have all been won with eight goals scored and no goals conceded. That ability to defend away from home is as much an improvement in the increase in the number of goals scored. Before this six-game unbeaten run began, United had conceded in 16 out of 17 away league fixtures. They need only a point to confirm the top-four finish  but they can finish the job off with a win here.
