Leeds United suffered yet another defeat in their 36th Premier League game of the season and this saw them drop into the relegation zone as Everton won. They will be hoping for some reprieve when they play host to Chelsea. Jesse Marsch’s charges go into this game placed 18th with 34 points while Chelsea are third on 67 points. A poor first half showing away to Arsenal, a mix of misfortune and a bit of luck was the story of Leeds’ game at the Emirates as they suffered a 2-1 defeat. They conceded twice inside 10 minutes and had Luke Ayling sent off in the 27th minute. They did manage to pull one back but the slim score line was to a large extent thanks to Arsenal’s wastefulness. Relegation is staring at them and Everton’s resurgence hasn’t helped, at a period when Leeds have dropped 10 points in the last five matches. They are coming from two straight losses and are winless in the last three matches. Going into this game they are tied on points with Burnley but Leeds have a very poor goal difference, which is keeping them in the bottom three but another big letdown is their home form. Leeds have managed just two wins in their last 10 home matches, losing six of these and conceding two or more in the six. Their only other remaining home match is against Brighton, who are doing well lately, and this is enough to worry Leeds’ fans.

Chelsea aren’t doing well either; there’s a lot happening in the boardroom but the focus remains on the pitch. As things stand, they could be dragged into the top four scrap, despite earlier in the season being tipped to contest for the league title. The Blues are coming from a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the club’s new owners witnessed a 2-0 lead snatched at Stamford Bridge in their first game in charge. That draw meant Chelsea are winless in three games, and the 1-0 victory over West Ham United remains the only win in five matches. They have one clean sheet in their last five matches and their defensive performance against Wolves will be a reason for concern. Chelsea are now just a point ahead of fourth placed Arsenal. With sizeable focus on the FA Cup final, coming after this game, Thomas Tuchel may be tempted to rotate the team and rest key men, which could also affect their top four chances.
