La Vuelta - Stage 13 Predictions & Betting tips - La Vuelta
by Matthew Newman |
Stage 13 of La Vuelta is where things get serious. This is the longest of the mountain stages and contains the first Hors Category climb of the race. There are fewer than 4000 vertical metres, but our prediction has to be a proper climber.
In 2023, the Vuelta climbed L'Angliru as it will here, but that was just a 124km stage; this is over 200! Jonas Vingegaard was runner-up that day, doing the best of those who are riding it once more. The current leader of the race, it will be fascinating if this is where he attacks.
Joao Almeida was sixth that day, losing 58 seconds on Vingegaard. He is going to have to find a way to attack his old rival on one of these stages, but his team put in plenty of effort with Juan Ayuso and Marc Soler on Thursday.
On Stage 11, Tom Pidcock rode away from all bar Vingegaard on the final climb. That was a shorter one than the massive final mountain here, but it showed that he is in fine form in the second week.
Astana will surely be busy again, with one of the Harolds, Tejada or Martin Lopez, likely to be on the attack. Harold Tejada was in the break on Stage 12, so perhaps it will be the second-named who will be trying to stretch his legs.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 13 - La Vuelta prediction
There is not much going on for the first three-quarters of the stage, before the race explodes on three climbs, including the first Hors Category to the finish. It is one of the most brutal climbs seen in any cycling event, where only the strongest can survive.
With so much climbing packed together at the end. It feels a stage for the main protagonists. The Vuelta can't be won here, but it can certainly be lost. Our La Vuelta Stage 13 prediction is Jonas Vingegaard to win. The top climber in the field, he has the strongest team around him.
