La Vuelta - Stage 11 Predictions & Betting tips - La Vuelta
by Matthew Newman |
Seven short and sharp climbs await the riders on Stage 11 of La Vuelta on a route that starts and finishes in Bilbao. Our prediction for this stage needs to look at punchy riders who will be looking to attack.
This kind of terrain is reminiscent of a spring classic or monument race, so it would suit the likes of Tom Pidcock. The issue Pidcock has is that he is too close to the leaders to be allowed into a break, and the downhill run towards the line would favour those in a break.
Santiago Buitrago has been third in Liège-Bastogne-Liège and has been 5th and 6th in La Flèche Wallonne in the last two years. This kind of terrain will suit him well, and he's far enough down the overall standings to not cause a worry if he attacks.
One who has been quiet early on in this race is Maximilian Schachmann. He finished third overall in the Tour of the Basque Country back in April, so he knows stages with this type of climb well.
Although he is more a man for the higher mountains, Mikel Landa needs to be given serious consideration here. He hails from the Basque Country, so this is the closest stage of La Vuelta to his home. A very capable climber, he could be dangerous to all if he is feeling feisty.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 11 - La Vuelta prediction
Although he is not necessarily a breakaway artist, our La Vuelta Stage 11 prediction is Santiago Buitrago each way. He has strong spring form, and that could be a good form guide to this stage.
