Linfield have never previously made it past the second qualifying round of the Europa League. Their usual season is start off in the Champions League qualifiers, get knocked out and transferred to the Europa League, then lose there. Well they have managed the first part of that tradition after losing 6-0 on aggregate to Rosenborg. However, it's been a different story in the Europa League ths season. The Northern Irish side have beaten HB Torshavn and Sujetska to reach the play-off round. They shocked Qarabag in the first leg of this play-off tie with a 3-2 home win. They trailed 1-0 in the first leg but then scored three to take a good lead. How crucial though will the 93rd minute goal they conceded?  Only one of their last nine away games in European competition have been won and only four in the last 19 years.

Qarabag started this season in the Champions League but lost in the third qualifying round to APOEL Nicosia. They won the away leg of that tie but then lost 2-0 at home. The Azerbaijan side are used to playing in the group stages having qualified for one or the other in the last five years. That late goal scored in the first leg will have been a relief and a 1-0 win would see them through to the group stages. Only two of their last 18 Europa League home qualifiers have been lost. This should be an exciting game but the home side can get the victory leading at both half and full time.
