Kaizer Chiefs have a date at home against Wydad Casablanca as the CAF Champions League returns after the international break. The Saturday match at the FNB Stadium will pit the hosts who are on five points and joint third in Group C against Wydad, who have 10 points and top the group. Kaizer Chiefs have registered a lot of improvement in their recent matches after a tough start to the season and will be eyeing a win here to keep alive hopes of advancing. This is their first ever appearance at the Champions League group stages and they hope to make it count. Chiefs haven’t lost a game since their 4-0 thrashing by Wydad in February in Burkina Faso; they are unbeaten in four matches and head here after a morale boosting 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates. They have two straight clean sheets going to the game and will be hoping to improve in attack, having scored more than a goal in just one of their last 12 matches. Their only win in this group has come against the weakest side, Petro de Luanda and here they will be measuring up against the best in the pool. It will suit Chiefs that they are unbeaten in their last four home matches, having registered two straight wins heading to this encounter, and three straight clean sheets. At home, they haven’t lost nor conceded in the Champions League this season, going back to the preliminary rounds. However, they have failed to score in three of those four home matches, but will be looking to build on their last one, a 2-0 win over Petro Luanda.

Wydad will not be under any pressure ahead of this game, and indeed reports from Morocco indicate that the head coach will not be traveling with the team. Also, a number of players involved with the Moroccan national team in the recent AFCON qualifiers will not be part of the squad. Chiefs can therefore expect a weakened team from the one they faced in Burkina Faso. Ayoub el Kaabi and Yahya Jabrane, who scored in the 4-0 drubbing of Chiefs are among players who will not be taking part. Wydad head here unbeaten in this group and haven’t conceded a goal. They are also unbeaten in their last 11 matches across all competitions, winning nine and keeping eight clean sheets. In the last five Champions League matches, Wydad have four wins and a draw, with five clean sheets but in their away matches they haven’t been so good. The Moroccans have lost four of their last six away matches in this competition and in the last eight they’ve won only once. The last time they were in South Africa, they lost to Mamelodi Sundowns.
