Kaizer Chiefs have lost their shimmer and are badly struggling in the season. They will be at home to take on Petro de Luanda in their third match in Group C of the CAF Champions League. Chiefs are third in the group ahead of this game, with one point, while Petro have no point yet and are bottom of the group. In their last match, Chiefs were handed a 4-0 hiding by group leaders Wydad Casablanca, having earlier drawn 0-0 with Horoya. Their recent run has been anything but encouraging and Chiefs go to this game winless in the last eight matches. They are closing in on their longest run without a win – nine. The last time they went winless that long was in 2016, and earlier in the 2001/02 season. In this game, Chiefs will miss Rama Mphahlele who was sent off in the Wydad defeat. Chiefs’ run at home is unimpressive too; they’ve won just one of their last 14 home matches, and have no goal in their last four Champions League matches at home.

Just like Chiefs, Petro de Luanda have scored no goal in their opening matches in Group C. The Angolans lost 1-0 and 2-0 to Wydad and Horoya respectively and have now failed to score in three of their last five matches. They have won five of their last 10 matches across all competitions. In Champions League matches, they have just two wins in the last 14. Away from home in the same competition, Petro de Luanda have one win and three losses in the last seven. This trip to South Africa will not be the first for the Angolans, they were in the same group with Sundowns last season and their away trip ended in a 3-0 loss. They’ve scored in seven of the last 10 away Champions League matches.
