John Isner reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon this year, his best ever performance in a Grand Slam. It was also the first time he'd reached the last eight of a Grand Slam since reaching the 2011 US Open quarter-final, all a bit strange for a player who's been ranked in the top ten in the world. He has to get past Milos Raonic to make the last eight but has been struggling so far in this tournament. Isner had to come from two sets to one down to defeat unseeded Nicolas Jarry in the second round and lost another set in his third round victory over unseeded Dusan Lajovic. Post Wimbledon he won the Atlanta Open but didn't beat any players ranked in the top 40 and then only won one match in his next three tournaments.

He faces a tough task here against an in-form Milos Raonic who is the 25th seed. Raonic reached the quarter finals at Wimbledon and since then has beaten 11th ranked David Goffin in the Rogers Cup and reached the quarter finals in Cincinatti losing to Novak Djokovic but taking a set off the eventual winner of the tournament. His form at the US Open hasn't been great and this run to the fourth round equals his best performance in the tournament. He's had a good run this year though with only one set dropped and he beat Stan Wawrinka in straight sets in the third round. Raonic looks to be in the better form and can be backed to win this match to reach his first ever US Open quarter final.
