The third round of the Miami Open is set to get underway this weekend, and in one of the most anticipated matches of the round, we will see Jessica Pegula and Danielle Rose Collins square on for the fourth time in their careers. Currently ranked third in the world, Pegula got the year off to the perfect start by being part of the American team that won the United Cup. She continued her excellent start a couple of weeks later at the Australian Open, reaching the quarter-finals, but was beaten by Victoria Azarenka (6-4, 6-1). Next came a defeat in the final at Doha, followed by a semi-final appearance in Dubai, and then a round of 16 showing at Indian Wells earlier this month. The American's consistency this year has been outstanding, and she is yet to be knocked out earlier than the round of 16.Pegula beat Katherine Sebov in the previous match and will have her sights set on another round of 16 berth with a win in this one. 

Danielle Collins, on the other hand, has seen her world ranking diminish fairly steadily over the last year, dropping from her all-time high of 7th in July 2022 to 30th currently. Collins' got the year off on a sour note at Adelaide 1 at the beginning of the year, knocked out in the first round, but she bounced back well in Adelaide 2 to reach the quarter-final round before falling to Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets. She reached the round of 32 at the Australian Open and that saw her ranking slump as she reached the final there in 2022. Her best finish of the year to date came in the Austin tournament, where she reached the semi-finals against eventual winner Marta Kostyuk but lost in straight sets. Collins beat Viktoriya Tomova in the previous round here in Miami, taking her record to 9-8 for the year. She's never beaten Pegula in her last three attempts and will know that she's up against it again this time with her opponent looking in good form this year.
