Japan W vs Sweden W Prediction & Betting Tips - Womens World Cup

by Steve Ashfield | in Womens World Cup Prediction

Japan look to continue their 100% record in the 2023 Women's World Cup finals. They take on Sweden in the last eight with the winners facing a semi-final against either Spain or the Netherlands. Japan wouldn't mind meeting Spain in the semi-finals as they have already beaten them 4-0 in the group stages. After beating Norway 3-1 in the last 16, they again have Scandinavian opposition. Sweden finished top of Group G and then knocked out defending champions Team USA in the last 16.

Japan W - Sweden W: Form Analysis

The Japanese side won all three of their matches in Group C, scoring an impressive 11 goals and not coceding any. They began with a 5-0 win over Zambia and followed that up by defeating Costa Rica 2-0. That left them with a match against unbeaten Spain to decide the group winners. Japan put in a great performance to beat the Spaniards 4-0 with Miyazawa scoring twice for the second time in the group. The last 16 saw them defeat Norway 3-1 with Miyazawa again on target. They have now won seven of their last eight games with the other being a loss to Denmark in April. That game was lost but it was a Japanese player who scored the winning goal for the Danes. Japan won the world title 12 years ago but haven't reached the last eight since 2015.

Sweden also won all three of their group games. The Blue and Yellow topped Group C by five points from South Africa with nine goals scored and only one conceded. The Swedes had to come from behind to beat South Africa in their opening group game with the winner not coming until the 90th minute. They followed that up with a 5-0 thrashing of an out-of-sorts Italy, though it took 39 minutes to break the deadlock. A 100% group record was achieved by then defeating Argentina 2-0. Their biggest win was in the last 16 when ending the world title reign of Team USA. The match ended goalless after 120 minutes but Sweden won the penalty shootout.  They are now unbeaten in their last six matches since they lost to Denmark in April.
