James Duckworth has returned to compete in Melbourne for the 12th time. The Australian hasn't excelled when playing in this event and has never progressed past the second round. He lost in the first round seven times.

The 32-year-old is coming off a first-round exit in Adelaide as a qualifier.

He has won two of his four fixtures and has moved up five places to 89th in the live ranking.

Dominic Stricker is making his Australian Open debut. The Swiss, who made his major debut in 2023, had failed to progress from the qualifying rounds twice here.

Stricker had a shock run to the fourth round at the US Open on his debut two seasons ago and will hope for a similar performance here. He will, however, have to get off his disappointing start to the campaign.
