Cameron Norrie takes on Hugo Gaston in the third round of the Miami Masters. Whoever wins this match will face either sixth seeded Casper Ruud or the 30th seed Alexander Bublik in the last 16. Norrie is the world number 12 but seeded 10th for this tournament due to the withdrawals of Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal. The British player is up to tenth in the live ATP rankings, not a position he expected to be in earlier this year. He began 2022 with four successive losses, including a first round exit in the Australian Open. He didn't win his first match of the year until February, when getting to the last eight in Rotterdam. His form has continued to improve dramatically since then. Norrie won the Delray Beach Open title, lost in the Acapulco final to Rafa Nadal and reached the last eight in Indian Wells. So far in Miami, Norrie has beaten fellow British player Jack Draper in straight sets.

Hugo Gaston began this event ranked 68th in the world. That's just below his career high placing of 66th earned last November. He's going to beat that though as Gaston is up to 62nd in the live rankings. The Frenchman also made a poor start to 2022 with three successive losses. His best performance this year is reaching the last 16 in Marseille, where he lost in straight sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He's had some bad results this year, particularly at Indian Wells. Gaston lost in the first round to JJ Wolf, who was ranked 209th at the time. That was his third loss this year to a player ranked outside the top 100. To get to the third round in Miami, Gaston has beaten qualifier Emelio Nava (ranked 312th) and then 20th seed John Isner. Norrie can continue his good form and win this in straight sets.
