It’s a final day League Two showdown at Blundell Park as Grimsby Town host AFC Wimbledon with both sides knowing a win would mean they would qualify for the playoffs. Defeat would see The Mariners miss out on the playoffs, and should The Dons lose, they too could see their season end prematurely. What will be our prediction for a match where an entire season is on the line?
The playoff status in League Two is intriguing. Only two spots remain open, sixth, where AFC Wimbledon lie, and seventh, currently occupied by Salford City. Grimsby lie eighth on the same points as Salford City (68) but with a much worse goal difference. They are two points behind AFC Wimbledon but would leapfrog their opponents with a win. That would be enough to assure them of a playoff berth. A win or a draw for AFC Wimbledon assures them of a playoff spot also.
Both sides' form heading into this game isn’t great. In fact, Grimsby’s is poor with one win in six (drawing three, losing two). The Mariners come into this game on the back of two draws, a 2-2 draw away to Port Vale and a 0-0 draw on the road at MK Dons last weekend.
