18th seeded Grigor Dimitrov bids to reach the third round at Roland Garros. He takes on Borna Coric who is unseeded and got into the main draw on a protected ranking. Dimitrov is the world number 21 but a player who is a dangerous opponent, He's already had a successful European clay court season with a semi-final in Monte Carlo and last 16 appearances in both Barcelona and Madrid. He'd have had a better season but for running into and being beaten three times by Stefanos Tsitsipas. Dimitrov is in a tough part of the draw though. If winning this match, he's likely to face Diego Schwartzman (who he beat in Madrid) in the next round and then Novak Djokovic is the scheduled quarter final opponent. Dimitrov has had wins over Hubert Hurkacz and Casper Ruud on clay this year. The Russian has a best of reaching the fourth round at Roland Garros, that was achieved in 2020 but he has reached the semi-final in each of the other three Grand Slams. Dimitrov had an easy 6-1 6-1 6-1 win over Marcus Giron in the first round of this tournament.

Borna Coric came into this tournament ranked 279th in the world. He's had several injury problems in his career, the most recent being shoulder surgery but four years ago he was ranked 12th in the world. A protected ranking meant he didn't have to go through the qualifiers to get to the Roland Garros main draw. The first round saw him come from a set down to defeat Carlos Taberner in four sets. That was his first clay court win of the year and only his second since returning to the tour from injury. Previously, Coric had lost all four of his matches on the surface in 2022. Coric did manage to win a set in all four of those losses. He has reached the third round here on four previous occasions, the most recent being in 2019. Dimitrov is going to be tough to beat and the tip is for him to get the win.
