Saturday’s Currie Cup action kicks off at Ellis Park Stadium, with the Golden Lions taking on the Blue Bulls. The Lions are fourth in the standings, while the Bulls are sixth after five games. Let’s get into the match prediction. 

After losing to the Sharks in last season’s final, the Golden Lions still have work to do to progress to the knockout rounds this year, having earned 16 points in five games so far. 

The Lions come into this match off the back of a 47-31 defeat to the Cheetahs on the road last week. That was their second loss in the competition, and there is now only one point separating them from the fifth-placed Pumas.

However, the hosts will be confident of getting a result here, as they’ve won both home games in this competition this season and have only lost three of 10 at this venue in 2025.

Meanwhile, with just 10 points after five games, the Bulls’ 2025 Currie Cup campaign will come to an end this weekend unless they can secure victory in this match. 

However, the Bulls suffered their third consecutive defeat in the competition last week, 42-21 at home against Griquas despite taking a 7-0 lead in the match. 

The visitors did very well on the road in the URC this season and beat the Lions 35-22 at this venue in January. They have now won their last seven away games against this opponent across all competitions.
