Seventeenth-placed Goias will take Cuiba, who are just two places above them in the Brazilian Serie A, on Sunday. The hosts have taken just seven points from their first eight matches and are the first side below the dotted line. Goias were beaten 2-1 in their last match against high-flyers Sao Paulo, which marked their fourth loss in their last six matches, along with a win and a draw. They’ve taken six of a possible nine points at home this season, winning two and losing one of their opening three matches at Estadio de Haile Pinheiro. Notably, though, their last home win came over the league leaders Botafogo, who they beat 2-1 a couple of weeks ago. Goias won the last encounter between these sides 2-1 last season, and a repeat of that here could help them get their season on track. 

Cuiaba, meanwhile, are only one point better off than their opponents and could find themselves in the bottom four if they lose this one. The visitors played out a disappointing 1-1 draw to bottom club Coritiba last week, which saw them miss an opportunity to climb into the top 12. Cuiaba have won two, drawn one, and lost three of their last six matches. Unusually, the visitors have failed to win a match at home this season but have managed two on the road in their four matches, along with two losses. However, they haven’t won at this venue in their last two visits. Can they change that at the third time of asking?
