Giro - Stage 4 Predictions & Betting tips - Giro d'Italia
by Matthew Newman |
The Giro returns to home soil for Stage 4 for almost 190km that will take the riders from the stunningly beautiful Alberobello to Lecce. This looks a stage for the pure sprinters so that's the place to start for our prediction.
When it comes to pure sprinting pedigree in the 2025 Giro, the only place to start is Olav Kooij. He is the 6th ranked sprinter in the world so far this year and this is the only sprinters stage in the first nine so he will have this ringed in the calendar as his biggest opportunity.
The 2024 Vuelta saw three sprint stages won by Australian rider Kaden Groves. He has not managed to find that same level of form so far in 2025 but his Grand Tour sprinting pedigree means he needs respect.
It's been a similar story so far this year for Sam Bennett. The Irish rider has won stages at all of the three Grand Tours in his career but he had to drop to a lower level to win the sprinters classification at the Loire Tour but perhaps that will give him the confidence he needs.
Although Mads Pedersen is not an all-out sprinter, his performances so far in the Giro, winning two stages means that he needs to be considered in this stage. The time seconds on offer for the first three to cross the line could be crucial.

Our Giro - Stage 4 - Giro d'Italia prediction
This is the first proper stage for the sprinters with a very small hill early on but them almost all flat throughout the day. It makes it the only opportunity that the sprinters have in the first nine stages in the tour to have a stage for themselves so expect any breakaways to be given very little rope and the pace to remain high.
The best sprinter in this field at present is Olav Kooij. He has not been able to hang with the puncheurs in Stage 1 or Stage 3 but won't have wasted a lot of energy trying to do so. Our Giro d'Italia Stage 4 prediction is for Olav Kooij to win.
