Giro - Stage 8 Predictions & Betting tips - Giro d'Italia

Stage 8 of the Giro d'Italia has four categorised climbs but there are a string of small climbs throughout the day to add to the difficulty. This is another day where the climbers will dominate our prediction.

It does not look hard enough for the main contenders for outright glory to make an effort here. As such, this looks a day where a breakaway can succeed and there are plenty who will be looking to make that group.

Nico Denz won two stages at the 2023 Giro. One of those had a series of climbs with a downhill run to the finish, very similar to the finish of Stage 8 and the other came with a big Cat One climb so he can get over the big hills as well.

The year before in 2022, Koen Bouwman won two stages as part of a breakaway on stages in the hills. He finished 12th overall in the Giro in 2021, winning the King of the Mountains in 2022. He is far enough back this year for the main contenders not to worry if he attacks.

Tom Pidcock could be another to appreciate this stage. A powerful rider, he is the type to add a huge turn at the front in a breakaway that could keep them away. It would be no surprise if he features heavily.

Stage 8 is 197km long and has four categorised climbs.
Koen Bouwman has won two stages at the Giro in the past, both as part of a breakaway.
Bouwman has finished in the top 25 in the overall classification at the Giro in three straight years.
When the high mountains come in week three, Bouwman’s job will be as a domestique to Chris Harper, this could be the time they allow him loose on a stage where Harper is not in need of any help.

This looks like a breakaway stage but predicting who will make it into said breakaway is a very difficult task. There are any number of riders who will want to get up the road but the one that we have landed on is Koen Bouwman. He ticked over nicely enough in Stage 7 but was never going to live with the general classification contenders once they kicked it into top gear on the final climb. This is easier and he has come alive at the Giro in the past. Our Giro d'Italia Stage 8 prediction is Koen Bouwman each way.
