La Liga champions Barcelona will begin their title defence with an away game against Getafe. The hosts wrapped up their preseason run with a 4-1 win over Vitesse. That was a good recovery after two straight losses to Reims and Granada. They had a strong finish to the season in the last campaign, going unbeaten in the final four games. Coming into this one, they’ll hope to break a five-match run without a win over Barcelona. They’ve however put up strong defensive showings in recent matches against Barcelona. In two of their last three meetings, Getafe kept clean sheets, and only conceded one goal in the three games. Four of the last six meetings between these two have also had under 2.5 goals. Getafe outscored just three teams in La Liga last season and coming into this one they don’t have a very strong record in attack. In the last five preseason matches, they scored more than a goal in two. Once in the last three matches they failed to score. In league action, Getafe failed to score twice in five closing matches, and four ended in under 2.5 goals.

Barcelona finished 10 points clear of second placed Real Madrid and will be keen on starting strongly. This, however, isn’t a game they’ve had easy in recent meetings, failing to score in two of the last three. However, in all the last three meetings, they’ve kept clean sheets, though scoring just one goal. Barcelona’s opening game last season ended in under 2.5 goals, a 0-0 draw with Rayo Vallecano. That was the first of their 18 league matches that ended in under 2.5 goals, two of them against Getafe. The champions enter this game in a strong position from the preseason and will hope to extend it. Apart from the 5-3 loss to Arsenal, they won all their other matches in preseason. They come into this one having managed three straight wins. In their most recent match, they beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-2.
