Group C action will see Germany take on Latvia in thier second group game on Saturday in the Men’s Ice Hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics. It is a game that will mean life or death for the latter stages for these teams, so let’s make a prediction.
Germany opened up their Group C campaign with a 3-1 win over Denmark. They are a team on the cusp of a big tournament on the world stage with the likes of Leon Draisaitl and Tim Stutzle leading the line.
They have had the better of Latvia when they have met in recent years, most recently beating them 4-1 in December, seeing them off 8-1 at the World Championships in 2024.
Latvia fell 1-5 to the USA in their opening game of the tournament but that was a scoreline that they would not have been too unhappy with. It was 1-1 after the opening frame, the USA not scoring a second until after the halfway mark in the middle frame.
A sloppy end to that second period put the game out of reach for Latvia but they were competitive for long periods of the contest. They will require another strong effort on this occasion.
