BMO Field in Toronto sets the stage for Saturday’s 2026 World Cup matchup between Group E leaders Germany and the Ivory Coast. DFB-Elf are on a 10-match win streak across all competitions, and our prediction is that they will be too strong for Les Éléphants in this one.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side kicked off their World Cup campaign with a massive statement, smashing seven goals past tournament debutants Curaçao last Sunday - the biggest winning margin of the first round of matches in this tournament. In doing so, Die Nationalelf also overtook Brazil to become the team with the most World Cup goals (239), surpassing Brazil’s 238-goal tally.
Emerse Faé’s team also achieved their own piece of history last weekend, as they became the first African nation to secure a victory at the 2026 World Cup, edging Ecuador 1-0 in Philadelphia. The only previous encounter between Germany and the Ivory Coast ended in a 2-2 draw in a friendly back in 2009. Let’s get into the key stats!

Germany - Ivory Coast: Form Analysis
After suffering a shock 2-0 defeat to Slovakia in their opening match of World Cup 2026 qualifying (UEFA), Germany reeled off five wins on the bounce to clinch top spot in their group.
Since then, DFB-Elf won four friendlies before their 7-1 victory over Curacao last weekend, which extended their win streak to 10 matches across all competitions dating back to last September.
During this current win streak, Die Nationalelf scored two or more goals in all but one match (average 3.5 goals per 90) and kept clean sheets in five of those games.
Germany had six different scorers in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup!
Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast dominated their World Cup qualifying group (CAF), going unbeaten across their 10 matches (W8 D2), scoring 25 goals while not conceding a single goal in those matches.
After bowing out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in January, the Elephants won four friendlies in the lead-up to this competition, though one of those was against club side Philadelphia Union II.
Solid defence has been the cornerstone of the West Africans' success in recent times. Following their 1-0 victory over Ecuador last week, they have now kept clean sheets in five of their seven matches in 2026.

Germany & Ivory Coast Squad Analysis
As mentioned, as many as six players were on the scoresheet for Germany against Curacao, including Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, Deniz Undav, and a brace from Kai Havertz.
While there were several standout performances in that match, Undav was particularly impressive. The Stuttgart forward picked up two assists and a goal in just 26 minutes off the bench, taking his tally to 11 goal contributions in 10 appearances for the national team.
Lennart Karl was forced to pull out of the squad after sustaining an injury in training. Musiala was withdrawn just after the hour mark against Curacao with a thigh issue, but Nagelsmann confirmed that it was just precautionary.
Undav is now one of only three German players to score and assist in a World Cup match since 1966!
The Ivory Coast also received a massive contribution from their bench, with Amad Diallo netting the winner after entering the fray in the 56th minute. The Manchester United winger is now the Elephants’ youngest-ever goalscorer at a World Cup (23 years and 11 months).
Diallo’s cameo may be enough to earn him a starting role this weekend, potentially in place of Bazoumana Toure, who was hooked before the hour mark against Ecuador.
Evan N’dicka was left out of the team’s opener after failing to recover from a hamstring tear sustained on May 17. After initially being denied entry to Canada, Elye Wahi has now been granted permission to feature in this match.

Our Germany vs Ivory Coast Prediction
In a week where African nations have struggled to find their best form at the World Cup, the Ivory Coast did their continent proud by grinding out a victory over Ecuador and marking their fifth clean sheet in seven matches in 2026.
However, the Elephants now face a massive step-up in class of opposition, as they are set to take on a Germany side that has been sensational over the last nine months and just smashed in seven goals in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup. We feel Die Nationalelf will be too good for the West African nation in this one. Our Germany vs Ivory Coast prediction is Germany wins.
