The Men’s Olympic Ice Hockey tournament hits the knockout stages with Germany taking on France on Tuesday. Read our prediction to find out who we think will progress to play Slovakia in the quarter-finals.
Germany will probably be a little disappointed in their group play. They got off to a great start with a win over Denmark but a loss against Latvia was not expected, though another defeat at the hands of the USA was.
They have been given a kind enough draw in the first of the knockout stages against France, with this number six against number 11 in the standings. Tim Stutzle has led the line so far, scoring in each game, netting four in total.
France have conceded more goals than any other team in the tournament, shipping 20 in the group stages. That is skewed a little bit after their 2-10 loss to Canada on Sunday but they also lost 3-6 to the Czech Republic and 0-4 to Switzerland.
Despite those heavy defeats, they have not been disgraced, keeping Canada honest through the first period before the stronger team took control.
