The Belgian Super Cup takes place this week just before the start of the new Jupiler season. Genk are the reigning league champions having won it this year for the first time since 2011. They topped the main season by seven points and then finished two points clear in the Championship Group. Their lead was cut by Club Brugge with Genk only earning two points from their last three games of the season. They have played four pre-season friendlies and had convincing wins in all of them scoring 24 goals. The two most recent victories were against Maccabi Tel Aviv and Lokomotiv Zagreb. Genk have home advantage in this Super Cup match and are unbeaten in their last nine games since losing to Slavia Prague in the Europa League.

Mechelen play in the second tier of Belgian football and caused a big surprise last year when winning the Belgian Cup. They beat four top flight teams, namely Antwerp, Lokeren, Kortrijk and Gent to lift the trophy. It was a successful season for them last year as they also won Belgian First Division B. It's been a controversial time too after the club were found guilty of match-fixing. It's still uncertain whether they will be able to defend their cup this season or take part in the 2019/20 Europa League, a decision is due soon. Their last four friendlies have produced three draws and a loss to Waalwijk. The tip here is for a Genk victory.
