A poor run earlier in the year saw predictions of a Newcastle United versus Fulham relegation decider but that hasn’t come to pass thanks to the Magpies going on a good run. Fulham will be hosting Newcastle United on Match Day 38 of the Premier League with the hosts already relegated, having managed 28 points so far and being 18th in the standings. Newcastle United are 15th with 42 points. Hosts Fulham are coming from a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, that being only the second time they’ve avoided defeat in the last nine matches. They’ve also weakened defensively since the 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield on March 7, and going to this game they have no clean sheet in nine while they’ve conceded two or more in six. Out of the last possible 30 points, Fulham have earned just five and these have come away from home. Now they are faced with the final game of the season at home and as they look to sign out in style, they have five straight home losses glaring, and they’ve failed to score in four of the five.

Newcastle United have been a different side in their recent matches and the side that was being tipped to fight for survival is 14 points above the relegation zone going to the final day. Four wins in their last seven matches have really lifted The Magpies and draws with Liverpool and Tottenham have also boosted their resolve. Newcastle are now playing with more confidence and key players have stood out too. Joe Willock, the loanee from Arsenal has been superb, with five goals in five matches and he will look to finish on a high, with his value having risen in the second half of the season. In the only game the team failed to score in the last eight matches, Willock was ineligible – the 2-0 loss to Arsenal. The Magpies are coming from a 1-0 win over relegated Sheffield United and have just three losses in the last 12 league matches. Steve Bruce’s side has however managed just one clean sheet in the last 10 league matches and the defence will be an area of concern in planning ahead.
