We'll have an unseeded player in round three of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Francisco Comesana takes on Adam Walton after his surprising win over Andrey Rublev on Tuesday. The winner will face either 25th seed Lorenzo Musetti or unseeded Luciano Darderi.
It was a real shock on Tuesday when Comesana made it into round two. The Argentinian is best known for his clay court exploits rather than playing on grass. His only match on the surface this year was in the first qualifying round at Eastbourne and he lost that.
Comesana is 122nd in the latest ranking list and that just earned him his place in the first round. This is his first time in the main draw of a Grand Slam and what a debut he made. He defeated the sixth seed in four sets, losing the second.
That was just the second grass court match of his career and has taken him to 108th in the live rankings. It's still 21 places below his career-high that was achieved in May of this year. Can he build on that win over Rublev?
Adam Walton is also playing at Wimbledon for the first time. He's played in two other Grand Slam main draws this year but lost in the first round in both Australia and France. The world number 101 is up to 92nd after his first round win, a new career-high.
To reach this second round, the Australian beat another Argentinian, Federico Coria. He won that match in straight sets building on his run to the last 16 in Mallorca last week. We go for over 3.5 sets to be played.
