Both France and Wales are drawn into tough groups at the European Championships and as they start preparations for the tournament, they’ll know not even the small details can be ignored. France reached the final last time and Wales got to the semis and this time both will be hoping they can go a step further. France hosts Wales on the back of a good run in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and are one of the favorites to lift the Euro 2020 title. Didier Deschamps knows good preparation will be key as Les Bleus look to add the Euro crown to their world title. France are unbeaten in their last five matches and have just one loss in 18. They also did well in the Nations League and have their place reserved in the semis. Thrice in the last five matches they’ve kept clean sheets and with the recall of Karim Benzema they’ll have an edge in attack. The world champions have arguably the strongest team going to the Euros and for this game, it is expected that most of the first team players will be left out. Their only loss at home in the last 16 matches was against Finland recently but France have a very impressive run at home.

Wales are still under caretaker manager Rob Page and he will be looking to answer critics with a win in Nice. They are in a group with Turkey, Italy and Switzerland and this friendly match will really be helpful, as they’ll be facing a giant. Unlike France, Page will not have the comfort of leaving out his top stars; he needs them all to adapt to the kind of opposition France offers, as that is what they’ll face at the group stages. Last time at the Euro Championships they went all the way to the semis and they are clearly eyeing one better. They have two losses in the last 10 matches and in four of the last five matches, Wales have registered wins in four, with three producing clean sheets. It hasn’t been very good for Wales away from home; they have three wins and five losses but they’ve managed to keep four clean sheets in the process. Meanwhile, they haven’t been able to score more than a goal in the last five away matches, and in the last 13, they’ve managed that just once.
