Midtjylland’s Champions League chances are hanging in the balance after a 3-0 first leg loss in the third qualifying round against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. That was their first real test of the season and the Danish giants failed, though after recovering to beat Velje 4-1, they’ll hope for a turnaround. Midtjylland have four wins in their last five matches and in three of them they’ve scored two or more goals, while keeping just two clean sheets. In the last round of the Champions League qualifiers, Midtjylland needed an extra time goal to eliminate Celtic, and here they will need more. Two straight wins at home should deliver the needed motivation going into this game, but only one clean sheet in five home games is a worry. PSV are on a different level; so far, they’ve played four matches and won all. They are coming from a ruthless 4-0 win over Ajax in the Super Cup and this should be a warning to the Danes. Their attack should scare any opponent, having scored 14 goals in four matches. PSV thrashed Galatasaray 7-2 on aggregate and Midtjylland will be well aware of the threat they pose. They have five straight wins and a run of 15 matches unbeaten. Mario Gotze, Chukwunonso Madueke and Eran Zahavi are enjoying a good run, with a combined 12 goals in their last five matches.
