Everton hosts Aston Villa on Saturday as the two sides play their game in hand in the Premier League. Hosts Everton still have European ambitions despite dropping to eighth, with 52 points. Meanwhile, ninth placed Aston Villa, with 45 points, should be able to rise to the top half by avoiding defeat here. Everton are coming from a slim win over Arsenal, which brought to an end a winless run of six matches. They are still in with a chance to get to the top four and after that win, which came on the back of three straight draws in the league, the big concern will be their home form. They’ve failed to score in just one of their last five league matches and on only one occasion have they been able to score more than one goal. They’ve been really poor at home in recent matches; in the last nine in the league, they have just one win, and five losses. This season, in 16 home league matches, Everton have managed just five wins. Their home form has been improving lately though, with the team collecting five points in the last four matches. A win here will see Everton rise to sixth, jointly on 55 points with West Ham United.

Aston Villa could still miss Jack Grealish as his recovery time takes longer than expected. The team has struggled without his creativity but they’ll welcome back Matty Cash, who was suspended in the 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion. In the last three matches, Aston Villa took the lead, but won none. They need to do better than that to be able to get to the top half. While Grealish’s absence has hit them hard in attack, defensively they’ve been poor, conceding twice in four of the last five league matches. Villa go to this game with just two clean sheets in their last 10 league matches. They have three straight away losses in the league while five of the last six away league games have ended in under 2.5 goals. Villa have failed to score in two of the six.
