World number 126 Eva Lys and qualifier Zeynep Sonmez will face off in the quarter-finals in Monastir. This Friday encounter will be their second meeting in 2024 and we have the stats and prediction for the match.
Eva Lys is coming off a decisive victory over two-time defending Monastir champion Elise Mertens. The German dug her heels in and came back from a set down to earn the victory. She should therefore fancy her chances of going all the way and claiming a first tour title.
Lys, who made it to the semi-finals in Budapest back in July, has compiled a 26-14 record. Eight of her wins have come in 12 outings on hard courts. The 22-year-old has won seven of her last nine matches, a run that has seen her move up to 113th in the live ranking.
Zeynep Sonmez defeated Lys on clay at the La Bisbal D'Empordà Challenger back in April. Though the win was expedited by an injury to Lys, the Turkish number one will be confident of another victory.
Sonmez is having her best-ever tour performance. She has won both her matches via a decider, defeating Rebeka Masarova and sixth seed Greet Minnen.
The 22-year-old, who has won six of her last seven fixtures, has compiled a 32-21 record alternating between the tour and challenger circuits. Despite her strong form in recent weeks, Sonmez has dropped seven places in the live ranking to 155th.
The winner from this match will battle Yulia Starodubtseva or Sonay Kartal in the semis.
