In another North African affair in the CAF Champions League quarters, Esperance of Tunisia will be playing host to Algerian Belouizdad, as they seek a place in the semis. Esperance go to this game trailing 2-0 from the first leg and have a daunting task against the Algerians. It doesn’t help that Esperance are on a four-game winless streak and three straight losses therein. They have conceded two goals in each of their last three matches and while they are needed to score at least two unanswered goals here, they haven’t scored more than one in the last six. They have only one clean sheet in the last five matches but with a run of 18 home matches unbeaten in the Champions League, they’ll have hope. Esperance have four wins in five Champions League matches at home and this form will matter a lot. They are also better experienced in this competition and will bank on that.

Belouizdad will go all out to protect their lead in this tie and with a run of four wins in the last six matches, they have shown the capability. They did beat Mamelodi Sundowns away from home in the group stages and will be hoping to carry that form to this game, especially with a five-game unbeaten streak in the Champions League. The Algerians have kept four straight clean sheets in this competition, and are on three straight wins. Before the win over Esperance, they had beaten Sundowns and TP Mazembe, both very formidable sides. This is Belouizdad’s only 12th Champions League game in their history and they will want to set a record by getting to the semis in only their second season in the competition. They have one loss in the 11 Champions League matches they’ve played – that loss was against Sundowns and was played in Tanzania with Belouizdad as hosts. Their away run is impressive; in their only five matches, the Algerians have no loss, three wins, and four clean sheets.
