by Devesh Jaganath in Women's Euro Predictions
Footballing royalty are set for a battle in Basel this weekend, but only one team can be crowned Queens of Europe on Saturday when England face Spain in the 2025 Women's Euro final! The Lionesses are in fifth place according to the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, while La Roja are second. Check out our match prediction below!
These two sides have been at the forefront of women’s football in recent years. England clinched the Euros (and their first major trophy) on home soil in 2022. However, Spain struck back 12 months later, beating England in the 2023 World Cup final before going on to oust the Lionesses en route to the UEFA Nations League trophy last year.
England are aiming to become only the second nation after Germany to defend this title and just the third to win it more than once. Spain, meanwhile, could become the first nation to win all UEFA’s current national team competitions, and the second to hold the World Cup and Euros trophies simultaneously. Let’s get into the key stats!

England W - Spain W: Form Analysis
England’s route to the final has been far from easy, and began with a 2-1 opening match defeat to France before two big wins over the Netherlands (4-0) and Wales (6-1). They have now won 13 of their last 16 matches in this competition!
The Lionesses needed a penalty shootout to overcome Sweden in the last eight and extra time to get by Italy in the semis after those games ended level 2-2 and 1-1, respectively, after 90 minutes.
These sides have already met twice this year and split the results one win apiece, with England claiming a 1-0 victory at Wembley before their opponents secured a 2-1 win in Barcelona.
Spain will become the eighth different nation to feature in a Women's Euro final this weekend!
La Roja’s journey to the Basel showpiece was more straightforward than their opponents, particularly in the group stage, where they won all three games and scored 14 goals combined.
After beating Switzerland 2-0 in the quarter-final, Spain faced a titanic battle against Germany and came out on top, edging the eight-time champs 1-0 in extra time in the semis.

England W & Spain W Squad Analysis
England have relied heavily on their bench in the knockout stages of this competition, and Michelle Agyemang has been the chief contributor in that regard. The teenager has scored off the bench in the last two games and is averaging a goal every 33 minutes since her debut in April.
Chloe Kelly is one to watch and certainly a player for the big occasion. The Arsenal forward scored the winner in the Euro 2022 final and has already had goal contributions in both knockout games this year.
Wiegman has only made two changes to her starting 11 across the competition, so we are likely to see a familiar lineup this weekend. Lauren James is a minor doubt after picking up a knock against Italy.
Esther Gonzalez is the highest goal scorer in the competition (4 goals)!
However, the star of the knockout rounds in this competition for the world champs has been two-time Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati, who scored the decider in the 113th minute against Germany.
Athenea del Castillo has been a model of consistency in this tournament and now has six goal involvements in her last seven appearances for Tome’s side across all competitions (5 goals, 1 assist).
La Roja will be boosted by the return of Laia Aleixandri, who missed the semi-final due to suspension. She is expected to slot straight back into defence, with Maria Mendez likely to drop to the bench.
