England W - Netherlands W: Form Analysis
England had the worst possible start to their title defence, falling 2-1 to France in matchday 1 action. With the loss, they became the first nation to suffer defeat in the opening game as defending champion at the Euros.
Now there’s real danger of elimination as they face off against a formidable side, who won’t come bearing the same pressure. No defending champions have ever exited this competition at the group stage.
That is the piece of history England will not be willing to be associated with. A goal ruled out after VAR intervention denied England what would have been the opener against France. That could have changed the course of the game, and Keira Walsh’s late goal was merely a consolation.
Defeat here will make England the first defending champions eliminated at the group stage.
The Netherlands have a golden opportunity here to send home one of their potential challengers to the title. The Dutch are coming into this game having opened their charge with a comfortable 3-0 win against Wales.
They don’t normally go into this fixture as favorites, but the Netherlands will be very confident here. In their 10 matches against England, they managed just two wins.
History favors them too, the Netherlands having failed to advance past their Euro finals group stage only once in their last four appearances. Winning here, or just avoiding defeat, will place the Dutch well to keep that record going.

England W & Netherlands W Squad Analysis
England manager Sarina Wiegman stood in defence of her team after the loss to France. A sizable population felt Lauren James was not up to the task. Having recently returned from injury, she was exposed by a strong France side that overloaded the midfield.
Now there are calls to have her dropped. Ella Toone is a likely replacement for James on matchday two. After defeat at this level, there’s always the temptation to engineer changes.
At left-back Jess Carter's performance will be under scrutiny. She could also lose her place to Niamh Charles, as England will likely deal with pacy wingers in this game.
Both nations come into this game without any fresh injuries announced.
Manchester City forward Vivianne Miedema was in inspired form against the Welsh on matchday one. She would go on to score the opener, her 100th international goal.
Facing some of her current and former clubmates, Miedema will once again eye a fine performance. London City Lionesses forward Danielle van de Donk was also unplayable against Wales.
She grabbed two assists and will as well be inspired for the England game. The attacking side unleashed on Wales also involved Victoria Pelova. She was involved in two goals, scoring and providing an assist.

Our England W vs Netherlands W Prediction
England Women lead in the head-to-head records coming into this game. However, they are the ones under pressure and in desperate need of a win. England have suffered three defeats in their last five matches.
While they rarely fail to score, they find an equally good attacking side in the Netherlands, led by a player who knows them well, Vivianne Miedema. With England expected to push for a win, a high-scoring game is a possibility. Our prediction for England v Netherlands is for the Netherlands to win and over 2.5 goals.
England W vs Netherlands W - Other Interesting Predictions
Vivianne Miedema to score
The Netherlands’ opening game in this group turned out to be a Vivianne Miedema show. She scored the opening goal to set the Dutch on the way to a comfortable win. That was her 100th goal for her country, and the forward will be inspired for this next match. With four goals in the last five international games, we are backing her to extend the good run by scoring here too.
Both teams to score
England have posted two clean sheets in their last five matches – against Jamaica and Portugal. Facing a team as strong as the Netherlands means they could struggle to keep one here. The Netherlands may also have their issues in defence, as they come here with two clean sheets in the last five games. Our third prediction for this match is for both to score.
